Where an insurer or fleet operator pays, the invoice goes to them rather than the vehicle owner, so the open item runs against the payer. Book it against the owner and receivables stay open that they will never settle — and the incoming payment finds no item to clear.
Parts and labour are different revenues
One invoice carries a sale of materials next to a service. Separating them matters for analysis because the two have entirely different contribution margins — merged into one revenue position, the workshop's gross profit says nothing.
