PayPal + KudTax

Connect PayPal to KudTax to clear open items automatically – split net payouts, transaction fees and multi-currency conversions into clean DATEV journal entries.

For most sellers PayPal is the payment route with the most individual entries, and the smallest ones. Every transaction carries its own fee, refunds run as separate events, and payouts to the bank bundle any number of them together. The bank statement ends up showing one figure with hundreds of transactions behind it.

What to watch for with PayPal

The fee hides inside the receipt

PayPal credits the net amount to the balance — gross payment less fee in one step. Capture only that net figure and the fee expense is missing entirely while revenue is understated. Both sides need separate entries even though only one reaches the balance.

The balance is an account of its own

Between a payment reaching PayPal and the payout landing in the bank sits a balance that has to be carried on the books. Booking only the bank transfer leaves a balance-sheet-date holding that never appears in the accounts.

Foreign currency converts twice

PayPal converts foreign-currency payments at its own rate, which differs from the reference rate. The difference is an expense or income in its own right and does not belong silently inside revenue.
